Why Years 9 and 10

The top grades are built long before the final year.

Grade 8 and 9 questions reward students who think flexibly. That kind of thinking cannot be crammed — it develops through regular, well-chosen challenge over a sustained period.

Working with a student in Year 9 or 10 means we can address misconceptions as they appear, extend the topics they find comfortable, and introduce exam-style reasoning gradually.

The aim is a student who walks into Year 11 already confident with unfamiliar problems.

What We Develop

Four habits behind high-grade mathematics

01

Logical thinking

Understanding why a method works, so it can be adapted when a question is framed in an unfamiliar way.

02

Problem-solving

Learning to break multi-step problems into clear stages, choose an approach and justify it in writing.

03

Resilience

Returning to difficult ideas over months rather than days, so understanding becomes secure and lasting.

04

Examination skill

Precise working, clear communication and an eye for how Pearson Edexcel awards method and accuracy marks.

A Considered Path

From Year 9 to the exam hall

  1. Year 9

    Secure the foundations deeply

Strengthen number, algebra and reasoning before the GCSE or IGCSE course accelerates. Gaps closed now do not resurface under exam pressure later.

  2. Year 10

    Stretch towards higher-tier thinking

Introduce the demanding, less familiar problems that separate Grades 8 and 9, building confidence steadily rather than all at once.

  3. Year 11

    Refine, rather than rescue

With habits already in place, the final year can focus on polish and exam technique, not catching up.

Your Next Step

Build Grade 9 Habits Before GCSE Pressure Begins

Students who achieve the highest GCSE and IGCSE grades rarely rely on last-minute intervention in Year 11.

They develop strong mathematical habits over time: logical thinking, problem-solving, resilience and confidence when facing unfamiliar questions.

My tuition is designed for ambitious Year 9 and Year 10 students who want more than short-term exam preparation. Together, we build the mathematical understanding and examination skills needed for future Grade 8 and 9 success in Pearson Edexcel GCSE and IGCSE Mathematics.

Places are intentionally limited to ensure every student receives personalised support and detailed feedback.
